According to the New York City Police Department, Houston Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. was arrested on Monday in New York City after claims of abusing a 26-year-old woman who was allegedly his girlfriend.

During the argument, Porter, 23, is accused of physically abusing the victim, repeatedly punching her, and choking her, according to an NYPD official. At an unknown area where the incident occurred, law enforcement were on the scene right away. The woman was then taken to a hospital for examination and treatment after suffering injuries.

According to the NYPD, preliminary charges of second-degree assault and choking have been filed against Porter after his detention.

After learning of Porter’s arrest, the NBA acknowledged the matter in a statement via spokesman Mike Bass: “We are aware of the reports about Kevin Porter Jr. In order to learn more about the situation, the league office is actively in contact with the Houston Rockets.”

Kevin Porter Jr., who was originally selected by the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round of the 2019 NBA Draft out of the University of Southern California, had a long career in the league. He was moved twice before joining the Houston Rockets, and he finally ended up with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Porter, an NBA player known for his scoring prowess, has played four seasons total, three with the Rockets and one as a Cavalier. He demonstrated his promise as a rising star in the league in the previous season, averaging a remarkable 19.2 points per game.

It’s important to remember that Porter’s multiyear contract extension with the Houston Rockets was revealed in October. The deal was reportedly worth over $80 million, and it showed the team’s confidence in Porter’s future.

The NBA community as well as Houston Rockets supporters watch this issue develop with anticipation and hope for a decent and fair outcome for all parties concerned.
